Minority Challenges GoldBod CEO, Signals Next Steps

The Minority in Parliament has dismissed allegations made by Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) Chief Executive Officer Sammy Gyamfi against some of its members, indicating that it will pursue formal action over his conduct.

In a statement dated August 22, 2026, signed by Deputy Minority Leader Patricia Appiagyei, the caucus said Mr. Gyamfi made inappropriate personal characterisations while responding to questions about GoldBod and the Bank of Ghana’s Domestic Gold Purchase Programme.

“We state plainly, and without qualification, that the allegations are false, and we reject them entirely,” the statement said.

The development marks an escalation in the ongoing dispute between the Minority and the GoldBod CEO, centred on concerns about losses associated with the Domestic Gold Purchase Programme.

The Minority insisted that its scrutiny of GoldBod’s operations was a legitimate exercise of parliamentary oversight and should not be misconstrued as wrongdoing.

“Legitimate scrutiny of a public institution’s operations and finances is a fundamental exercise in accountability,” it noted.

The caucus also cited Ghana’s Code of Conduct and Ethics for political appointees, stressing that public officials are expected to uphold civility, restraint and respect.

“We expect every public official, including the Chief Executive Officer of GoldBod, to be held to those standards, and we will pursue the appropriate institutional channels available to us in that regard,” the statement added.

The Minority did not specify which institutional channel it intends to use or the exact action it plans to take.

It maintained that it would not respond to Mr. Gyamfi’s personal remarks in kind, saying its focus remained on ensuring accountability in the management of public assets.

The dispute follows the Minority’s questions about alleged losses in the Domestic Gold Purchase Programme, which it says were identified in an International Monetary Fund (IMF) report. The caucus has demanded a reconciliation with GoldBod’s audited financial statements.
