Ghanaian defender, Alhassan ‘Lalas’ Abubakar has indicated that he is not discouraged by the lack of opportunities with the Black Stars and will continue working hard to earn his chance with the team.
After representing Ghana at the U-20 level a couple of years ago, the hard-tackling center-back was expected to eventually climb to the national team level.
Unfortunately, the competition in the position he plays has been that high, leaving him to miss out on call-ups since 2018.
Speaking in an interview with Accra 100.5 FM last Saturday, Lalas Abubakar has opened up on his Black Stars neglect.
“Not at all. Am never discouraged. The national team is all about chances. When it's your time you will be called”, the defender answered when asked on the subject.
According to him, he is confident of getting his chances at the right time if he continues working hard.
“After playing for the U-20 team too am sure if I work hard I will surely get the national team call-up will come. I know God's time is the best.
“So for now am focused and am working hard. I know once I continue working hard at the club level I will surely be called”, he said.
Lalas Abubakar further stressed, “I am very ready. Since 2018 I have been hoping to get the call-up because at the club level am doing very well. I am ready to play for the national team and when am called I will come and help my country”.
The former Columbus Crew defender earlier this year completed a permanent transfer to Colorado Rapids where he has gradually established himself as a key member of the team.
