Two African Countries Face African Court

Accra, Dec. 7 – Rwanda and Tanzania face the African Court on Human and People’s Rights (African Court) at the close of the Continental Court’s four-week sitting of the 51st Ordinary Session in Tunis, Republic of Tunisia.

The Session was held outside the seat of the African Court in Arusha, Tanzania, at the invitation of the Government of Tunisia.

The Continental Court would give Judgments in the matters: Application 003/2014 – Ingabire Victoire Umuhoza v. Rwanda (Reparation); Application 001/2015 – Armand Guehi v. Tanzania; Application 024/2015 – Werema Wangoko v. Tanzania; and Application 006/2016 – Mgosi Mwita v. Tanzania.

The African Court is composed of eleven Judges, nationals of Member States of the African Union elected in their individual capacity, meets four times a year in Ordinary Sessions and may hold Extra-Ordinary Sessions.

As at November 30, 2018, the Continental Court had received 190 applications and has finalised 48.
