Kumasi, Sept. 30, GNA - Mr Eddy Ofori-Kuragu, Member of Parliament (MP) for Bosome-Freho in the Amansie East District of Ashanti has called for the nullification of the constituency election held at Asiwa on Tuesday.
This is because the constituency executives ignored a letter from the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the party dated September 23 asking that the elections should not be held.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency in Kumasi on Wednesday, the MP said the constituency chairman, Mr Amo Gyami and some of the executive flouted a directive from Mr F.F. Anto, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the party that the election should not be held.
Mr Ofori-Kuragu said the constituency chairman and his clique went through the back door and conducted the polling station chairmen elections without the consent of the entire constituency executives. According to him, the secretary's report normally read at a delegates conference was not read and contended that even before Mr Osei Asibey Antwi, the Regional First Vice-Chairman and his team got to Asiwa, the election had already been conducted. He contended that personnel from the District office of the Electoral Commission did not conduct the election since they were not present.
All these, Mr Ofori-Kuragu said call for the elections to be nullified and a fresh date fixed for the constituency election.
