At least seven people are feared dead, while several others have sustained injuries following a devastating collision between an Accra-bound VVIP bus and a Toyota Sienna at Saka, a suburb of Zebilla in the Bawku West District of the Upper East Region.
The accident occurred at approximately 5:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 13, 2026, sending shockwaves through the local community and causing panic among commuters on the busy Bolgatanga–Zebilla–Bawku highway.
According to eyewitness accounts, the two vehicles collided under circumstances that are still being investigated. However, initial reports suggest that the driver of the Toyota Sienna, popularly referred to by some residents as a Voxy driver, may have fallen asleep behind the wheel before the crash occurred.
Emergency responders, with support from residents in the area, rushed to the scene to rescue victims trapped in the wreckage. The injured were subsequently transported to the Zebilla Government Hospital, where they are receiving medical treatment.
Authorities are yet to officially confirm the number of fatalities, but reports from the scene indicate that at least seven people lost their lives in the tragic incident.
Police have commenced investigations to determine the exact cause of the crash, while rescue and recovery efforts continue.
Further details are expected as officials work to identify victims and notify their families.
