Nkawie (Ash), Sept. 30, GNA - A circuit court at Nkawie has sentenced a 28-year-old labourer to 12 months imprisonment for stealing iron rods valued at one million cedis. Joseph Apanga pleaded guilty to the charge. Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Joseph Gabienu told the court presided over by Mr Noble Nkrumah that Madam Grace Nyamekye, the complainant, kept iron rods being used for the construction of her building at the construction site. He said the complainant detected that someone was stealing some of the iron rods. ASP Gabienu said at about 1400 hours on August 27, this year, Apanga was seen carrying some iron rods and when he was confronted, he pulled out a locally manufactured pistol but was quickly disarmed. The prosecution said the accused was consequently arrested and sent to the Abuakwa Police Station where he was charged after interrogation. Meanwhile, Apanga will face another charge of possessing an unlicensed pistol. 30 Sept. 05
