The Assin Odumase Restoration Child and Youth Development (AORCYD), in collaboration with Compassion International, has commissioned an ultra‑modern washroom facility valued at GH¢230,000 for the people of Assin Odumase in the Assin South District of the Central Region.

The new facility comprises a 10‑seater water‑closet toilet and two bathrooms, designed to improve sanitation and promote healthy living within the community.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Rev. John Evans Arthur, Reverend Minister at the Abura Dunkwa Assemblies of God Church, said the project was intended not only to provide essential infrastructure but also to strengthen community engagement. He urged residents and local leaders to take ownership of the facility and ensure it is properly maintained.

Citing data from the World Health Organisation (WHO) and UNICEF, he noted that approximately 4.2 billion people globally lack access to safely managed sanitation. In Ghana, nearly 80 percent of households do not have basic toilet facilities—an issue that contributes to preventable diseases, reduced productivity, and compromised dignity.

Rev. Arthur expressed confidence that the new facility would significantly help curb open defecation in the area.

Mr. Isaac Nartey, Project Facilitator of AORCYD, emphasized the importance of constructing such a facility to promote hygiene and maintain a clean environment. He encouraged residents to treat the washroom with the care and attention it deserves.

Mr. Theophilus Assumang Amoako, Assembly Member for the Odumase‑Sibinso Electoral Area, advised users not to smoke in the facility and reminded them that a small maintenance fee would be required to ensure its sustainability.

The commissioning ceremony brought together traditional leaders, teachers, opinion leaders, clergy, and students.
