When for the first time was the original idea of the ‘age of curiosity, scarcity and abundance” published? It was right here in a syndicated column in 2005 and it was a very scarce notion. Today Age of Abundance is a useless notion; the term is widely used by dozens of big time leaders as their prime umbrellas hovering over their own crafts; while in reality, the term ‘age of abundance’ has now become a precursor to the “age of decadence” while we have started advancing towards a new “age of tolerance”.

Let’s go deeper:
During the age of curiosity; mankind struggled with its primal senses of touching, feeling and sniffing out whatever was deemed necessary for survival. This is where survival strategies created the best of the best major innovative roots that are still being deployed. Few examples of this are Electricity, Railroads, Cinema, and Aviation. Mankind innovated the most ever during this period and created breakthrough life altering solutions that are enjoyed today.

During the age of scarcity; mankind had already acquired the taste for appreciation and almost everything became a rightful and immediate need. Access and usage became the measurement of class. Mankind invented duplication, replication, and automation to spread the accessibility and commercialization of thinking. Satisfying instant need with cheaper access became the norm, and the mind started the entry into the comfort zone. Being ‘cool’ about things and being lazy in the ‘grove’ became the mantra.

During the age of abundance; the last few decades, mankind appears to be losing curious anxiety and rather has become decadent in a very sluggish posture. It is becoming oblivious to the original roots of wild creativity and is now lost in the safety of the past discoveries. True we have new innovations by the seconds; there are 100 million apps on a single Apple iPhone platform alone and a million new types of software application are daily lined up on the computer platforms. However, these are mostly extensions of prime inventions that grew from the age of curiosity.

Passing through the Age of Decadence:
Today we are in a new era of incompetency. This is at least true on the economical development front, where lingering boredom is tabulated as innovative performance. The confusion is embedded all around, while the outcries are becoming audible as distance thunder. The deafening sound of the disgruntled citizenry creating sharp pungent stinks in the political corridors is now seen and heard around the world.

Here are five new signs to recognize the now passé of the age of abundance

The Decadence;
when originality dies, obscenity and profane layers are added to already dead ideas

The Incompetence;
when old thoughts become totally useless, but they linger in the name of tradition

The Governance;
when masses reject being blindly governed over being fairly managed

The Resonance;
when the calls of billions fall on deaf ears and silent majorities change regimes

The Tolerance;
when dogmas dominate progress and a new age of tolerance starts to appears

Understanding the Last Seven Societies: How 100 years of evolution has landed us here; during the Print Society in 1900, when the printed word was power, literacy was perquisite and only the privileged had access to knowledge. A similar scenario occurred 120 years later and is occurring today, as the thousands of options are only open to new global age literate while the rest of the population watches as amazed spectators. Today the Block-chain and AI coding, the technocalamity and alpha-dreamers are all altering our thinking while enjoying progress.

The Radio Society made its impact after a quarter century. It brought information freely available to the air and music to tap dance on assembly line floors. The ‘voice’ created radio-personalities with opinions and opinion leadership became noticeable. There were 5 other major societies. TV Society brought live action dramas, and started the colorful consumerism. Telecom Society shorthanded distance and created standardization. The Computer Society created miniaturization and a sense of accuracy. The Cyber Society brought the world to the desk and started the diffusion between work and other lifestyles. We just left the Click Society, which brought the world into our pockets and seriously disrupted the traditional work model.

Today, we are in this new universal ‘Plugged Society’ and now biologically crave to stay deeply soft wired to a ‘knowledge plug’ to control our bloodstreams and our mind as a survival strategy. Today, we are the most advanced ever in the history of civilization on pragmatic knowledge and realistic understanding of mankind and humanistic needs. There is an understanding of survival and concerns for creating grassroots prosperity, something for which the previous societies so badly failed. The elements of fierce competition and destruction mentality are being replaced by calmer collaboration and coordinating grassroots ideas. The world is finally becoming a village.

Two important things: the first four societies took almost a century to unfold, while the last three took only a quarter century to unfold which means we will be landing in a brand new society by 2020. Second, the impact of this phase will be the extreme combination of all the last three societies. Our new society is a metamorphosis challenging our daily work model, something we have not experienced in the last 200 years. The change from a regimented work day to fully free flowing work and rest life styles will dramatically shift habits in lifestyle and entails major psychological adjustments.

Today, Age of Abundance is a useless notion:

The fact that there is too much replication of inferior ideas now overflowing and drowning us in mediocrity the age of abundance is useless notion. It’s not the abundance of news; it’s same news million of times over. The overly educated are out of synch with entrepreneurial business and global age commercial realities. The national innovation agendas are primarily lips service and made to appear timely creating photo ops while the hard core realties are buried under fake news. It’s not the annual gala award nights, but the absence of substance with a constant repeat of similar circuses that create the illusion of abundance. It is in fact the absence of real truth.

The Age of Tolerance:
Mankind on the other hand, as a call of nature, is hardwired with safety devices to slowly and instinctively evolve out of darkness and continually adjusts in order to come to its own senses and create its own survival. Ancient ruins are the witness of this and living proof. Otherwise we would still be in caves fighting over square-wheels.

The collapsing socio-economical and political failures of the last century have pruned and matured the human brain and programmed it to appreciate tolerance as its upcoming survival strategy. This fact is clearly visible in open minded countries where millions of folks of all colors, races, gender and beliefs mingle daily and enjoy progressive living. Nations that fear this tolerance and their citizenry to remain brainwashed with fake news will have a hard time discovering the beauty of tolerance. The new global age world is far more tolerant and diverse than where it was a few decades ago. For global age friendly and openly connected and communicative nations, they see and hear this loud and clear.

Nevertheless, this reality is still a serious uphill challenge in the farthest corners of the world. Progress toward acceptance and tolerance is a very long journey and the road ahead will be loaded with various incidents; today billions have become far more informed, enlightened and tolerant. It is time to circumnavigate the earth, but slowly, and witness how the new world of tolerance and global connectivity is arriving. The human race is strong and for every dark era, it comes out shining more brightly after the darkness. We are entering a new era of human understanding and mental enlightenment.

Let’s revisit this again a decade from now!
