Principal unhappy about indiscipline among student nurses

Tanoso, (B/A), April 18, GNA - Mr. Francis Ayaba, the Principal of the Tanoso Community Health Nurses Training School, on Sunday expressed concern about what he described as the growing indiscipline among nursing trainees in the country.

He stated that nursing was a decent profession and asked heads or authorities of training institutions to dismiss naughty students to deny them the opportunity to complete their courses and come out to practice only to dent the image of the profession.

Mr. Ayaba raised the concern when addressing students and staff of the school at a dinner and awards night organized by the Student Representative Council (SRC) at Tanoso in the Tano North District of Brong-Ahafo Region.

The principal observed that nurses, unlike the other professions, during the training period, go through unique instructional regimes aimed at saving lives and this is the reason why wayward students should not be allowed to carry over their indiscipline from training institutions into the public or private practice.

'Many avoidable deaths are now being recorded in health facilities because of negligence and indiscipline on the part of some nurses.

Mr. Ayaba mentioned some of these bad traits as indecent dressing, truancy, lateness and absenteeism and said these must not be tolerated.

He advised the students of the school to be God-fearing, warning that authorities would not spare any student who would engage in any unhealthy lifestyle.

The Principal said though academic performance had improved, inadequate classroom blocks and accommodation for staff were some of the challenges hampering effective teaching and learning.

Mr. Ayaba said construction works on a storey building had been abandoned because of lack of funding while the school's library was also not up to standard.

Some deserving students received recognition and prizes for their hard work.
