Personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) have rescued two persons alive following a road traffic accident along the Kpeve–Peki stretch in the Volta Region.
The accident occurred on Tuesday and involved a Rhino truck with registration number GX 3516-16 and a Toyota Voxy with registration number GN 6973-25.
Mr. Hope Bedzrah, Volta Regional Public Relations Officer of the GNFS, said the Peki Fire Station received a distress call at about 07:41 hours reporting the crash and immediately dispatched a rescue team to the scene.
According to him, firefighters arrived promptly and carried out rescue operations to ensure the safety of the victims and prevent further hazards.
The rescue team successfully extricated and assisted two male victims, aged 52 and 20, who survived the crash.
Mr Bedzrah said personnel also salvaged assorted drinks and quantities of ammonium sulphate fertiliser from the accident scene to prevent additional risks and ensure public safety.
He noted that the swift intervention of the firefighters helped bring the situation under control and secure the area while relevant authorities undertook further assessments.
The cause of the accident has not yet been established and remains under investigation.
The Ghana National Fire Service has urged motorists to strictly adhere to road safety regulations, avoid excessive speeding, and always exercise caution to reduce road traffic crashes.
Mr. Bedzrah reiterated the Service's commitment to protecting lives and property and appealed to road users to cooperate with emergency responders during rescue operations.
