Ho, Dec. 9, GNA - Mr Joseph Nayan, 40, a three-year Certificate 'A' Teacher has become the first candidate in the Volta Region to win a parliamentary seat on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Fourth Republic.
He would become the first Member of Parliament (MP) for the newly created Nkwanta-North Constituency in the next Parliament.
Mr Nayan polled 6,178 votes in Tuesday's parliamentary election to beat his closest opponent, Mr Muftawu Iddrisu of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) who polled 5,424 votes, Dr J.K. Mamboah-Rockson (Independent),3,678 votes, Abdulai Fulamba (Independent), 518 votes and Mr. Abdulai Aziz Tairu (CPP),123 votes.
The Nkwanta-North Constituency was carved out of the former Nkwanta Constituency whose MP., Mr Gershon Gbediame, of the NDC would become the MP for Nkwanta-South in the next Parliament, having won Tuesday's parliamentary election with a majority of 15,569 votes.
