NDC NDC marks 34 years of political influence and democratic governance
WED, 10 JUN 2026

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is celebrating its 34th anniversary today, commemorating more than three decades of political activity, governance, and contributions to Ghana's democratic development.

Established on June 10, 1992, following Ghana's transition to multiparty democracy under the Fourth Republic, the NDC has grown into one of the country's most prominent political parties, playing a central role in national politics since its inception.

The party evolved from the Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC) administration led by former President Jerry John Rawlings, who subsequently became the NDC's first presidential candidate and secured electoral victories in both the 1992 and 1996 general elections.

Over the years, the NDC has produced three presidents namely Jerry John Rawlings, John Evans Atta Mills, and John Dramani Mahama while maintaining a significant presence in Parliament and local government institutions across the country.

As members and supporters mark the anniversary, many are reflecting on the party's political journey, achievements, and impact on national development since its formation.

Party loyalists have pointed to major investments in infrastructure, healthcare, education, social intervention programmes, and economic reforms implemented during various NDC administrations as key milestones in the party's history.

This year's anniversary celebration comes at a significant moment, with the NDC currently in government under President John Dramani Mahama following the party's victory in the 2024 general elections.

Party leaders say the occasion offers an opportunity to reaffirm the NDC's commitment to its core values of social justice, inclusiveness, accountability, and national development.

Across the country, supporters are expected to observe the milestone through community engagements, solidarity activities, and reflections on the party's past accomplishments and future aspirations.

The anniversary highlights the NDC's enduring presence in Ghana's political landscape and its continuing role in shaping the country's democratic and development trajectory.
