Breman Asikuma (C/R) Feb. 23, GNA - The Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa (AOB) District Assembly has inaugurated its Town and Area Councils with a call on the members to focus on issues that would progress the common wellbeing of the people.
Mr. Samuel Adom Botchway, the District Chief Executive (DCE), gave the advice in the speech he delivered at the respective ceremonies to inaugurate three Town Councils and five Area councils. They comprise Assembly and Unit Committee members.
He stated that their election as Assembly and Unit Committee members marked the confidence the people had in them, therefore, they should live up to their responsibilities and be selfless in their service.
'For the duration of your term, you are to serve the people in your areas of operation to improve their general living conditions and make them part of the decision -making processes and governance at the local level,' he stated.
The DCE said the bodies were the sub-structures of the Assembly, which were expected to explain polices for the better understanding of those at the grassroots levels to deepen democracy and patriotism.
According to him, the members, therefore, should execute their functions as stipulated in the Legislative Instrument (LI), including assisting any person authorised by the Assembly to collect revenue due to the Assembly; and to prevent and control fire outbreaks.
Mr. Botchway said the sub-structures were to be represented by individuals who were dedicated and ready to demand accountability, while they also rendered themselves accountable to the people in the decision-making processes.
In regard, he said, the Assembly would continue to play its major role of ensuring that the needed logistics were provided to them to ensure the effectiveness of their work.
He advised them to work in unity and be law-abiding as role models.
