Works on the Infectious Disease Centre for the three Northern Regions is 60% complete.

The facility is being built in the Northern Regional capital, Tamale to cater for any future cases of infectious diseases that may be recorded in the country.

Director of Health Administration and support services of the Ghana Health Service (GHS), Kofi Poku said the Centre is being built in accordance with specifications from the World Health organisation (WHO).

Meanwhile the second phase of the Tamale Teaching Hospital which is expected to upgrade the facility into a 900-bed capacity will be ready by June 2018.

The €38.5 million expansion works will primarily serve the three northern regions thereby enhancing healthcare delivery.

The construction comes with a five-storey block with operating theatres, maternity wards and facilities such as a three-storey accident and emergency building and reception area as well as beds for emergencies.

Resident Project Architect, Johannes Amoah Boateng says all is in place to ensure the project is completed on schedule.

The Deputy Minister of Health, Dr Victor Bampoe who is currently in the region inspecting government projects, was optimistic that the facility will enhance medical research and provide tertiary health care to the people in the north.
