Accra, June 9, GNA - The families of three prominent Ghanaians- Anthony Kwashie Deku, Lionel Van Lare Dosoo and Raphael Kugblenu - on Monday informed the Speaker of Parliament of their death and funeral arrangements.
The late Deku, a former Commissioner of Education, and a member of the Council of State, was born on June 13, 1923, and died on April 26, 2015.
The late Dosoo, a former Chairman of the Ecobank Ghana Group, and a former Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana, from 2000 to 2009, was born on 26 December 1946, and died on May 9, 2015.
The late Kugblenu, a former Inspector General of Police, from between 1981 and 1984, died on April 24, 2015.
Mr Victor Gbeho, a former Member of Parliament for the Anlo Constituency in the Volta Region, and former President of the ECOWAS Commission, led all the three delegations, to call on the Speaker.
According to the family of the late Deku, the funeral would begin in Accra, from August 27 with a pre -burial mass at the Christ the King Parish in Accra, and continue later at Woe from 28th and 29th August, 2015.
The funeral of the late Dosoo would take place with a pre-burial mass at the Christ the King Parish on July 3, 2015, and later continue with the funeral and burial at Tsiame.
For the late Kugblenu, the date is yet to be fixed, but the Leadership of the House gave indication that it would be represented at the funeral.
The Speaker paid tribute to the three persons on their role in national development.
For the late Deku, the speaker described him as a person whose name was synonymous with security and perhaps the pioneer in the establishment of security companies.
The late Deku was noted for his strong position against some policies of Ghana's first leader, Dr Nkrumah and reportedly openly support for the overthrow of that regime.
The Speaker said:"He was prepared to state his position strongly. I think he has paid his dues. We'll join you in celebrating the late Mr Deku".
For Mr Dosoo, after Prof John Aheto, formerly of the University of Ghana Business School, described him as having played lot of pivotal roles in the nation's financial sector.
The Deputy Minority Leader, Dominic Bingab Nitiwul said the late Dosoo's sacrifice of his life was something to be emulated.
Majority Leader, Alban Bagbin in commenting the financial acumen of the late Dosoo, observed that the nation's financial challenges stemmed from not generating enough but rather from spending too much.
The Speaker of the House commended the late Dosoo for making his skills and services available to different governments under different parties.
The leadership, which included Mr Ebo Barton Odro, First Deputy Speaker, commended the late Kugblenu for rising to the high office of IGP.
