The Agona West Directorate of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has issued a flood alert to residents of three communities situated along River Akora, urging them to evacuate vulnerable areas to ensure the safety of lives and property.
Residents in flood-prone and low-lying areas of Agona Swedru, Nyakrom, and Nkranful have been advised to remain vigilant, prepare adequately, and adhere to safety directives issued by NADMO and other relevant authorities.
Mr. Charles Agbavitor, Agona West Municipal Director of NADMO, issued the warning through the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Agona Swedru after assessing the water level of River Akora on Friday, June 5, 2026.
He urged residents to exercise extreme caution and closely monitor developments, noting that weather conditions and water levels could change unexpectedly.
Mr. Agbavitor assured residents that NADMO officials in the municipality were on high alert and prepared to provide timely information and warnings to communities living along River Akora should weather conditions deteriorate or water levels rise significantly.
The Municipal Director also warned residents, particularly those living within buffer zones demarcated by National Security in 2010 following a major flood disaster that affected Agona Swedru, Nyakrom, Swedru Sabon Zongo, and Swedru Salem, to strictly comply with all flood alerts and safety measures.
He stressed that adherence to the warnings was essential to safeguarding lives and property in the event of flooding.
