Accra, 7th May, 2014 – Sir Justice Dennis Dominic Adjei, a Court of Appeal Judge, launches a book titled, ''Modern Approach to the Law of Interpretation in Ghana'' at the National Theatre at 2pm on the 23rd of May, 2014.
This book, which will serve as a very useful reference material to every person who believes in the rule of law and wishes to fully appreciate the Ghanaian political administration, deals comprehensively with approaches adopted by judges in the interpretations of our laws and highlights, specifically, the various approaches used by the nine Justices of the Supreme Court in formulating their respective judgements on the 2012 Election Petition.
Democratic developments and the need to entrench constitutional rule in Ghana require that every citizen acquires some working knowledge of the law. This book, coming on the heels of an important development in the Ghanaian jurisprudence ''the 2012 Election Petition,'' gives useful insights on the legal thoughts which informed the decision of each of the judges. It also educates the reader on other useful legal subjects such as the thirty-two common law presumptions and the construction of will, deeds, and documents. Other subjects covered by the book are:
Repealed and retroactive legislations
Constitutional interpretation
The meanings of words like ''shall,'' ''may,'' and ''must.''
