The Ghana Police Service has interdicted a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Alhassan Malaika Jibril, over his alleged involvement in the demolition of facilities at the Accra Race Course at Borteyman.
The Police Administration said the interdiction was necessary to facilitate investigations into the circumstances surrounding the demolition, which occurred on Saturday, August 22.
“The Police Administration has interdicted DSP/Mr. Alhassan Malaika Jibril for his involvement in a demolition exercise at the Accra Race Course at Borteyman on Saturday, 22nd August 2026,” the Police Service said in a statement issued on Wednesday, August 26.
The move follows allegations by the Accra Turf Club that about 200 armed men, accompanied by police officers and heavy-duty equipment, entered the race course and demolished several facilities.
According to the Accra Turf Club, the group arrived at the facility with nine bulldozers and an excavator and allegedly demolished about 100 horse stables, buildings, racing facilities and utility infrastructure.
The Club also alleged that horses were forcibly removed from their stables and jockeys were ejected from residential facilities.
The Club had called for an urgent investigation into the incident and appealed to the government to intervene over what it described as a forceful takeover and demolition of its property.
The Police Service has now indicated that its Criminal Investigations Department (CID) and the Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPSB) are investigating the matter.
“The Criminal Investigations Department (C.I.D.) and the Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPSB) are investigating the matter, and anyone found culpable will be taken through the due process of the law,” the statement added.
The police investigation is expected to establish the circumstances surrounding the demolition and determine whether any officers or other persons breached the law.
