Accra, April 25, GNA - Participants at a dialogue on Mainstreaming Citizen Engagement in World Bank Group Operations has stressed the need to use technology and education to promote development agenda on the globe.
They identified lack of access to information, education and technology as some of the gaps in developmental efforts on the globe.
The session was organized by the World Bank to gather input and experience from relevant stakeholders on how to build citizen engagement activities that contribute towards better development results.
The new World Bank Group Strategy, adopted in 2013, aimed to align all World Bank Group-supported public and private sector interventions to the two goals of ending extreme poverty and boosting shared prosperity in a sustainable and inclusive manner.
Civil Society Organizations, governments, the private sector, leading academics in the field and other development partners from Ghana, Liberia, Sierra Leonne and Washington, DC were billed to dialogue on the topic through video conferencing but there was technical problem so only their Ghanaian counterparts deliberate on the issue.
Dr Emmanuel Akwetey, Founding Executive Director, Institute for Democratic Governance (IDEG-Ghana), who facilitated the Ghana side, said citizen engagement at country level needs more attention from the World Bank Office to close the knowledge gap.
He urged all participants to continue to engage both government and parliament to promote developmental agenda of the country.
The dialogue was part of an ongoing effort to hear different perspectives and learn from those who have worked on citizen engagement efforts in development projects and programs.
The input would be considered as the World Bank Groups work to develop a strategic framework for mainstreaming citizen engagement in its operations.
The strategic framework would build on available evidence and experience from existing citizen engagement efforts, and identify context-specific opportunities to engage with citizens and seek beneficiary feedback to improve outcomes.
