
The suspects are believed to be the ones who had been terrorizing residents at different locations in the municipality.
They were arrested at different locations – from behind Ecobank, Market Square, Water Booster Station, Big Bolla and I Shall Return.
Police seized 77 wrappers of dry leaves suspected to be Indian hemp which were abandoned at the Market Square by a man, upon seeing the police, five improvised pipes, white foreign papers believed to be used by the criminals for smoking, two spoons, among other items.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Jonathan Adams Godoe, told DAILY GUIDE that as part of strategies to prevent crime and allow law-abiding residents of Ashaiman and its surroundings communities to enjoy some peace, especially during the Easter celebration, the Ashaiman Divisional police swooped on suspected criminals who engaged in smoking marijuana and peddling other unlawful drugs.
According to him, one of the suspects, Prince Cephas Tika, a 41-year-old mason, was found with a quantity of suspected Indian hemp, while Kwasi Darko, a 38-year-old electrician, was arrested with a partially smoked roll of suspected Indian hemp and one other roll together with a box of matches in his pocket.
The Divisional Police Commander disclosed that apart from the items listed earlier, foils believed to be used by the suspects for ingesting heroin and cocaine, were collected behind Ecobank.
He said that all the suspects were in police custody and would be arraigned before court after investigations and screening.
He therefore called on the general public to help identify any of the arrested suspects at an identification parade so as to facilitate investigation and prosecution of the suspects.
