Mr Alan Kyerematen, a founding member of the opposition New Patriotic Party and a presidential hopeful in the party's presidential primaries chose to spend Easter Sunday with the underprivileged and vulnerable within the Accra Metropolis during the Joy Fm Easter Soup Kitchen event at Efua Sutherland Park in Accra. Hon. Alan Kyerematen, popularly called Alan Cash interacted with the beneficiaries who were receiving free medical screening and counselling at the event. He mingled freely with the mainly youthful gathering.
Mr. Kyerematen, who is a former Trade Envoy of The African Union, was accompanied by his wife; Mrs. Patricia Kyerematen and some friends joined the volunteers to serve food, water and drinks to the kids and the sick who had gathered at Children's Park for the event. Many volunteers and beneficiaries took time off to take pictures with Alan Cash and his wife. The organizers of the event took the couple round the various pavilions to explain to them the nature of the event.
In a brief address to the gathering, Alan Cash admonished the privileged in society to share with the poor and the needy as Jesus Christ sacrificed his life on the cross for mankind. To him, giving is a virtue which must be emulated by all especially Christians who believe in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. He also advised the government to put in place social mitigation measures geared towards providing relief and opportunities to the underprivileged. He praised Joy Fm and its sponsors and partners for organizing such an excellent event. He promised to join them in subsequent years.
Earlier in the week, Mr. Kyerematen who served as the Minister of Trade, Industry and PSI during President Kufuor's administration had donated 20 bags of Rice, 100 liters of Vegetable Cooking oil, 10 cartons of Soft drinks and an undisclosed amount of money towards the event. This is the second time the New Patriotic Party's presidential hopeful is undertaking such philanthropic gesture in the year as a similar donation was made to the Osu Children's Home during the Christmas and New Year festivities.
