September 21st of every year in Ghana has been marked over the years as the birthday of Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah's birthday. It has also been regarded as the National Founders Day. But this particular year, 2013, the Ghana Think Foundation decided to mark the day as the National Volunteers Day. Over fifty volunteer activities were organized by individuals and groups throughout the country. Various activities such as ICT classes for school children, football clinics, blood donation exercises, clean up, donations to some orphanages, reading , writing and coloring sessions for children etc etc.
All these were to put smiles on the faces of so many people and also to inculcate the spirit of volunteerism into our society. I organized a reading, writing and coloring session for children in my community on UCC campus and i was helped by Professor Awusabo Asare who devoted his time and also helped in planning the activities for the day. I also had the help of my fellow Sunday School teachers. At the end of the day, we were all happy to have made Mother Ghana and Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah very proud.
Volunteering is a very good thing to do and lets all make Ghana a better place by devoting our time and little resources to help any body we come into contact with. To all those volunteers who organized activities on this special days, lets make this day, September 21st every year bigger and better and i say more vim and ayeekoo to you all. God bless Mother Ghana and lets keep the vision in motion (vim).
