Ghana's second largest Hydro power station is the Bui dam.
The first power generating unit(1) of 133 megawatts from the Bui hydro-electric project was officially started on the 3rd of May 2013.
The project, which is being constructed by China's Sinohydro Corporation, is said to generate 400 megawatts of power when it is fully in operation by the end of 2013 to completely stop the current constant power outages in the country, which is in diverse means deteriorating and drawing the economy of the country back.
The project which started in April 2008, was financed by the governments of Ghana and China at a total cost of nearly 800 million U.S. dollars, with the Chinese government providing 90 percent of the funds while the Ghanaian counterpart paid only 10 percent.
