Guwahati, May 6 : Veteran journalist of Assam Prafulla Chandra Barua has died on Monday at a private hospital in Guwahati.
He was 75.
The prominent journalist passed on at the International hospital around 2-55 pm on Monday.
Barua was undergoing treatment at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the hospital for various ailments.
Prafulla Chandra Barua joined as a staff reporter cum sub editor in Natun Asomiya, an assamese daily news paper in 1963 and had served as an Editor in Janambhumi (weekly), Dainik Janambhumi (an assamese daily), Dainik Asom (an assamese daily), Rongpur (weekly), Uddipon (an assamese monthly magazine).
Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi, Agriculture minister Nilamoni Sen Deka, former chief minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta, writer Purna Kanta Nath, Assam BJP unit, All Assam Students Union (AASU) and several organizations have mourned the death of the journalist and extended their condolences to the bereaved family.
Barua was one of the founding trustees of Media Trust of Assam.
