CSOs in central region empowered on Election 2012

Accra, Sept. 16, GNA – Ghana Decides, a non-governmental organization, has trained over 30 organisations in Cape Coast and its environs on the usage of Social Media tools to promote a better-understanding of electoral issues particularly, Election 2012l.

They were taught to set up and run social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Google Plus and other online communication tools such as Google Drive, Dropbox and Mail Chimp.

In a statement to the Ghana News Agency in Accra, Mr Kwabena Oppong Boateng, Communications and Social Media Strategist for Ghana Decides, noted that for most of the organisations, digital communication and social media is a challenge but with practical training, they can join the online revolution.

M Kosky Oduro Debrah, who represented the Central Regional House of Chiefs, on behalf of the participants, commended the organisers for the technological empowerment and stated that he would set up a social media platform for the Regional House of Chiefs to promote traditional festivals.

The Social Media workshop was attended by National Disaster Management Organisation, One Heart Foundation, New Independence Central Press, YES FM, Care Love Charity Foundation, Saltpond CICICT Club and other youth groups.

Ghana Decides- A BloGh Election Project is funded by STAR-Ghana under its Election 2012 call and aims to foster a better informed electorate for free, fair and safe 2012 Elections using online social media tools.

The non-partisan project also aims to educate the youth, civil society organisations and public institutions on the effective use of social media for social change.
