Moslem elders calls for disciplined political campaign

Asokore (E/R), Aug. 18, GNA - Elders of the Moslem communities in the New Juaben North Constituency, have called for political campaigns devoid of acrimony in this year's parliamentary and presidential elections to ensure peace in the country.

The New Juaben North Parliamentary candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Livingston Asamoah, gave the advice when he presented 18 bags of rice and five cartons of tin fish to the Moslem communities in the constituency, on behalf of the Deputy Minister for Youth and Sports, Dr Omani Boamah.

The short ceremony at Asokore, near Koforidua on Saturday was to mark the celebration of the Moslem festival.

The items were received by elders of the various zongo communities in the constituency led by Alhaji Mahamadu Bello of Asokore.

The beneficiary communities include Oyoko, Suhyen, Jumapo, Asokore-Kuma, Akwadum, Asokore and Kentekye.

Mr Asamoah appealed to the Moslem community to pray for unity and peace in the country and for the victory of the NDC during the December elections.

He called on the Moslem communities in the constituency to support him and promised to develop the whole constituency and also support the Moslem communities, if he is elected.

He promised to establish a scholarship scheme to support the education of brilliant but needy students in the Moslem communities.
