Bolgatanga, June 30, GNA - Mr Gregory Agana Amoah, Bolgatanga Municipal Director of Education, has called on head teachers to ensure that the use workshops to build their capacities.
He said they could learn a lot form workshops and that would not only help them acquire more skills but also determine their promotions in future.
He said this during a two day workshop in Bolgatanga was to study the revised version of the head teacher's handbook.
Mr Amoah said head teachers played very high profile managerial and supervisory roles in the Basic Schools and that if heads were committed to their supervisory duties, real teaching and learning would be enhanced and that would improve the final outcome of the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in the Municipality.
He advised heads to use the code of ethics and discipline to guide them in whatever administrative measures they undertook in the course of their work.
He said the Revised Head Teacher's Handbook would be their guide as it outlines the areas where the heads work and appealed to the heads to be good role-models of discipline and punctuality.
Mr Mustapha Sheriff, Course Officer of the workshop, said they were happy with the workshop which had built their capacities in leadership, management, supervision and effective implementation of school based insets and financial management in line with the Procurement Act.
Mr Sheriff appealed to the Education Directorate to ensure that heads are paid responsibility allowances and given motor bikes on hire purchase to promote instructional contact hours in the schools.
