Accra, May 21, GNA - Tigo Ghana has donated cash and assorted items worth over GHc10,000 to the chief and people of Efutu Traditional Council to support this year's Aboakyer festival.
“Supporting the rich Ghanaian culture and putting smiles on the faces of many is always our pleasure,” the head of marketing Tenu Awonoor of Tigo said during the donation in a statement copied to the Ghana News Agency on Monday.
He added: “Tigo has over the past year's consistently supported festivals all over the country in diverse ways most notably - the Tigo festival train, which brings Ghana's finest musicians together on one stage to perform to live audience both at festival grounds and in the comfort of their homes.
Nana Kofi Tekyi IV, Nifahene of the Efutu Traditional Area at the presentation applauded Tigo for the kind gesture and said the donation would go a long way to support them in the building of a proposed community centre.
The Aboakyer festival is celebrated annually by the people of Simpa or Winneba in the Central Region of Ghana in May each year.
During the festival people go out to hunt for a deer to sacrifice unto their god to mark their migration from the ancient western Sudan Empire.
