Farmer, palm wine tapper bonded after fighting over their ex-wife

Akim Oda (E/R), May 05, GNA – Two men who fought over their former wife were on Friday bonded by a magistrate court at Akim Oda, to be of good behaviour for 12 months.

Emmanuel Yaw Tawiah, a farmer and Joseph Kennedy Owusu, palm wine tapper, would pay a fine of 200 Ghana Cedis each.

They had earlier pleaded not guilty to acts intended to disturb public peace and were remanded in police custody and when they reappeared, the trial judge, Mr Albert Owusu Annor, found them guilty of the offence.

The prosecution told the court that Tawiah and Owusu were friends who lived at Akim Asene near Akim Oda.

It would be recalled that Tawiah married Adwoa Bosuo, but fell ill and was admitted in hospital, during the period, Adwoa Bosuo got married to Owusu and had a child who died later.

When Tawiah was discharged from hospital, Adwoa Bosuo divorced Owusu and went back to her former husband, and since then a fracas emerged between them and the matter was reported to the police.

When Owusu was interrogated by the police, he said that he wanted to reclaim everything he bought for Adwoa Bosuo, as well as moneys spent on her during their marriage.

That, at about 22:30 hours on March 5, Owusu met Tawiah and Adwoa Bosuo in town and demanded that she should pay back GH¢50 he had given her, but Tawiah did not take kindly to it and that resulted in a fight.

The two men later reported themselves to the police and were given police medical report forms to attend hospital, before they were arrested.
