Techiman South Chiefs threaten to Boycott the December general election.

Woraso (B/A), May 3, GNA – The chiefs and people of seven farming communities in Techiman South constituency of the Brong-Ahafo Region have threatened to boycott the December general election if the road network in the area is not rehabilitated.

The communities include Yamediagro, Domiabra, Kofi Lobikrom, Kusaase Line, and Woraso.

The more than the 600 residents of the communities have also appealed to the government to provide a teacher's bungalow at Woraso for the local basic school.

Nana Yeboah Innusah and Nana Kwame Tawiah, chiefs at Woraso who acted as spokespersons for the communities disclosed this when they conducted newsmen around the area at the weekend.

They said the bad nature of the roads leading from Bomini-Nkwanta to KontohKrom-Hwediem had resulted in foodstuffs getting rotten on farms, as the people could not cart them to marketing centres.

They said several appeals made to the Municipal Assembly had proved futile and the farmers continued to transport their foodstuffs on bicycles, as well as the sick and pregnant women to nearby villages such as Asantaaso and Bamire.

Even in the on-going biometric registration exercise the people had been neglected as there was no centre in any of the communities, Nana Tawiah said.

They indicated that there were 10 houses at Yamediagro, six houses at Domiabra, 25 houses at Kofi Lobikrom, 50 houses at Kusaase Line and 350 houses at Woraso and that their neglect was a denial of their fundamental rights.

The chiefs stated that “no single electoral officer has been assigned to the area since the beginning of the registration exercise”.

At Woraso newsmen detected that the queenmother for the area, Madam Badu had released a room in her house as office accommodation for teachers at Yamediagro.
