A CPP government would tackle nerve centre of corruption-Bright Akwettey

Ho, May 3, GNA - Mr Bright Akwettey, one of the aspirants for the presidential slot of the Convention Peoples' Party (CPP) said a CPP government led by him would tackle "the nerve centre of corruption in Ghana".

Mr Akwettey made the pledge when he addressed Volta Region delegates who would be attending the Party's May 12 Congress scheduled for Takoradi.

Mr Akwettey said corrupt officials at all levels of the public service were milking the country dry, leaving the majority of the people to wallow in poverty.

He indicated that he would be making some startling revelations on the depth and extent of corruption in the public service.

Mr Akwettey said he was speaking from a position of knowledge having worked for several years in the Attorney-General's Department where he rose to become Chief State Attorney, and in the Gambia where he was in charge of restructuring that country's Attorney-General's Department, as well as being in private legal practice.

Mr Akwettey said there was massive stealing from the public purse where officials had mastered the craft of plastering over the holes they have punched in the national purse.

He said it would take a committed and bold leader as himself to tackle the pervasive corruption which was holding back the country's ability to provide quality life for every citizen as a right.
