Goaso (B/A), July 31, GNA- Two employees of the Asunafo District Assembly have been remanded into police custody by the Goaso Magistrate Court for allegedly defrauding the District Assembly.
Kofi Agyei, a Revenue Collector and Edward Obeng, an Executive Officer were arrested for issuing fake receipts alongside the Assembly's approved General Counterfoil Receipts (GER) to clients at Kukuom, near Goaso on July 25 this year.
Giving the facts of the case, Chief Inspector Bawah Adama told the court presided over by Mr Justice Osei Kwame Gyamfi that the Asunafo District Assembly had for sometime been recording low revenues from some of its revenue zones including Kukuom.
Chief Inspector Bawah said this prompted the Asunafo District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr George Yaw Boakye to pay a surprise visit to Kukuom on the early hours of July 25 and arrested Kofi Agyei in the process of issuing the fake receipts alongside the approved ones. A search on Agyei revealed another booklet of the fake receipts in his bag.
The DCE made a report to the Kukuom Police who after investigations arrested the accused persons.
