UWR Ministers urge youth to shame bad behaviour

Wa, Aug. 6, GNA – Alhaji Issahaque Salia, Upper West Regional Minister has called on the youth to shame bad behaviour in society.

He said they should also hold leaders accountable irrespective of the political divide to ensure that state resources were not used for any partisan group.

Alhaji Salia was addressing members of the Catholic Organisation for Social and Religious Advancement (COSRA) at its National Spiritual Congress in Wa on Friday.

He said the youth could only be future leaders if they prepared themselves today for tomorrow's task, pointing out that anything short of that would not be good for them.

Naming and shaming bad behaviour and ensuring accountability and judicious use of resources should be the focus and concern of the youth to ensure a meaningful future, Alhaji Salia advised.

He noted that the state and the church had one mission to ensure the proper utilisation of resources and therefore called for closer ties between the two bodies for the rapid development of the country.

Alhaji Salia admonished members of COSRA to ensure that spirituality was practiced in and outside the church, saying that should be a lifestyle and not an identity.

He said the church had a great role in societal re-engineering and for living a life devoid of insults; disrespect and absenteeism.

Alhaji Salia urged the youth to be abreast with the scriptures to serve as a guide to their lives, rather than relied solely on religious leaders, especially in “this day where the fake ones have mushroomed into our midst”.

The Catholic Bishop of Wa Dr Paul Bemile cautioned the youth to be wary of the type of friends and faith that they followed so as not to be misled.

They should therefore have faith in Jesus Christ and follow the principles of Catholicism to overcome disappointment and setbacks in life, he added.

Mr. Samuel Nkrumah Duah, National President of COSRA advised the members to commit themselves to the service of God.

The COSRA is a Catholic youth group to persons between 18 years and above. Members of COSRA meet every four years at a congress to re-examine their spiritual lives and seek for God's favours.

About 720 youth from 14 dioceses of the Catholic Church were attending the four-day congress, which is on the theme: “For God has already placed Jesus Christ as the one and only Foundation and no other Foundation can be laid”.
