Daboase (W/R) July 30,GNA-The Mpohor Wassa East District Assembly is to embark on a data collection exercise soon for planning purposes , Mr. Anthony Bassaw, the District Chief Executive, announced on Thursday.

Addressing the 2nd Ordinary Meeting of the 2nd Session of the District Assembly at Daboase, he said the data would be used to prepare a district comprehensive database to assist in the work of the assembly.

Mr. Bassaw said some community members are to be selected and trained for the exercise, which included numbering of houses.

He said a seven-member team comprising assembly members and management would be set up to plan the exercise.

Mr. Bassaw said the assembly has taken a firm decision to terminate contracts of non-performing contractors in the district.

He said the assembly took the decision after a special inspection to ascertain the performance of contractors.

Mr. Bassaw said a meeting was held with the contractors including those executing GETFUND projects awarded in 2005, 2006 and 2007 but are not completed.

He said the contracts would be re-awarded for early completion if the contractors fail to report to site on dates agreed upon at the meeting.

Mr. Bassaw said the contract for the construction of a Police Post at Atobiase has been terminated and would be advertised soon.

He said the District Tender Committee would not hesitate to terminate contracts that are far behind schedule or are not been implemented according to specification and when sub standard materials are being used.

He urged members of the assembly to continue to monitor physical and non-physical projects in their electoral areas and inform the Works Unit of the assembly when contractors are not adhering to specification.
