As part of measures to promote the right learning environment for the 21st century study skills, the Presbyterian Boys Senior High School-Legon (PRESEC) has equipped it's resource room with an Electronic Interactive Board, a Modern Visualiser, An electronic slate and other accessories. In addition, most of the classrooms will be fitted with projectors for use to do power point presentation in lesson in the academic year. The headmaster of the school Mr. Africanus Anane announced this at the school's 73rd anniversary and Speech and Prize giving day on in Accra: Building quality human resource for national development: the role of old boys.
He proudly stressed that PRESEC is the only public school in Ghana that has moved to set the tone of others to follow. “It is my vision also that by this, we foster critical thinking and collaboration in our classrooms among our students. We will also be facilitating student-centred classrooms that would encourage students to have the sense of direction and higher order-thinking that would make our students operate in any world of work they may find themselves in” Mr. Anane stated.
The headmaster also disclosed that the school has recorded a lot of successes in extra curricular activities during the academic year. This include winning the bronze medal in the international Junior Science Olympic out of 30 countries across the world, Quiz competitions, drama competitions, and some remarkable achievements in sports.
He enumerated a tall list as challenges facing the school. This includes inadequate accommodation for staff and students. “The effectiveness with which we want we always want to execute our strategies for effective and efficient academic work gets affected greatly due to the acute accommodation challenges facing us”
The situation he said has also compelled larger number of the students to become Day students which is having effect on their effectiveness in the school. He thus called for support so that they could expedite work on an ongoing four storey building which was started by the PTA to help more students residing on campus.
Mr. Anane also appealed for support for security intensification in the school; construction of a modern library facility to accommodate all the students as the current one only is able to accommodate 80 students out of the 2741 student population.
Professor Seth Danso, Fellow of Ghana Academy of Arts and Science, guest speaker for the occasion and an Old Boy underscored the need for secondary education to be critically considered due to its pivotal role in human resource development. He proposed that entrepreneurship and small scale business development training be incorporated in secondary education to help students acquire employable skills to make a living.
He commended current students and old boys for their contributions to the school and urge them to continue setting good examples for those who will come after them to follow.
“Given the numerous prize and trophies that the school has in recent times received for outstanding achievement, I have no doubt in my mind that you have accepted the challenge , and are already role models for those aspiring to become future odadees even before you earn the enviable title of being old boys.”
Reverend Hebert Anim Oppong, Clerk of the General Assembly of
Presbyterian Church Ghana, stressed the need for the ministry of education to include religious bodies in the formation and implementation of educational policies since the church plays a vital role in the provision of quality education and are key partners in the development of human resource.
He commended the Staff of PRESEC for their high sense of duty and urged them to produce quality and valuable students for national development.
The 1986 year group celebrating their silver jubilee of leaving school are the main sponsors of the 73rd anniversary. The group refurbished the ground floor of the Science College pieces state of the art computer lab, with 2 scanners and two servers. President of the year group William Alomatu commended his colleagues for their corporation and commitment towards the project and the organisation of the 73rd speech day. He encouraged the students to strive hard to attain higher marks, in spite of all the difficulties. “The training you receive from this great school is what will make you what you will be in future.”
