Tarkwa, March 24,GNA-A Tarkwa circuit court has sentenced Frank Worlanyo Asamoah, a 56-year-old bank manager of the Asankrangwa branch of Barclays bank, to four years imprisonment in hard labour for stealing 139,222.00 Ghana Cedis belonging to the bank.
He pleaded guilty.
Prosecuting Police Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Albert A. Adiita told the court presided over by Mr. Samuel Obeng Diawuo that on November 8, 2008, it was detected at the Banks Head quarters in Accra that between May and November, 2008 the manager had reversed series of entries on the ATM visa cash suspense account illegally to the tune of 139,222.00 Ghana Cedis.
According to the prosecutor, the accused created 135 ghost names and used it to cash 100,000 Ghana cedis.
The prosecutor said a report was made to the police by the Financial Crime Unit of the bank,
The prosecutor said the accused said he gave 10,500 to one Eunice Asamoah, his wife, who is now at large and Samuel Komla, a customer at Tarkwa Branch who contracted a loan from him.
