By GNA

Kumasi April 29, GNA - The Social Science Society (SOCIOSO) team lifted the ultimate trophy at the annual Provost Games of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi.

They beat the Faculty of Industrial Art Students Association (FINASA) 4-3 on penalties after a barren 0-0 drawn game in an entertaining football marked by brilliant display of individual skills.

SOCIOSO received a cash prize of GH¢ 300.00, while FINASA took home GH¢250.00.

Professor Daniel Buor, Provost, College of Art and Social Sciences, instituted the Games in 2009 to help promote sportsmanship among students from the College's five Faculties - the Law, Industrial Art, School of Business, Social Sciences and Fine Art.

The faculties competed in football, volley ball, table tennis, draught and "Oware."

George Afriyie of the Social Sciences Faculty won the "Oware" competition, with Frank Agyei, emerging champion of the draught game.

Prof. Buor expressed satisfaction with the comportment, discipline and sportsmanship exhibited by the students.

He said the participants deserve praise for making the event incident-free and encouraged them to continue to exercise their bodies to keep healthy.

The Provost later presented a set of jerseys, two footballs, one basket ball and a volley ball to the College to enhance its sporting activities.

Mr Paul Kumah, Students President thanked the Provost and said they would take good care of the sports kits to ensure they produce more sportsmen and women for the Faculty's sports development.
