Cape Coast, April 29, GNA - Abel Awotwe, a remedial student of Samo Senior High School in Cape Coast got drowned on Saturday, when he accompanied some friends to swim at the OLA beach, near the OLA Training College.
The Central Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Corporal Raymond Asaaba Told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on Wednesday that some students of the school went to the beach last Saturday morning after a keep fit exercise, along the OLA Training College stretch of road.
He said Awotwe and two others went swimming but later one of his colleagues detected that the tide was becoming too strong and stopped swimming.
Corporal Asaaba said as soon as the student came out, he realized that Awotwe and one other boy were being carried away by the high tide and he raised an alarm and some fishermen around attempted to rescue them.
He said the other boy was saved but Awotwe unfortunately, could not be traced until the following day when he was washed ashore at Duakor Beach near Elmina.
