
District Assemblies in the East Akyem Municipality of the Eastern Region have been advised to encourage farmers to go into fish production, since it has the potential of improving the country's economy. Addressing the farmers at a Durbar at Akyem Osiem, the National Coordinator for Agricultural Producers Council, John Lari Tee, said country lacks annual fish deficit of 460,000 tons.
He said the country's total annual fish requirement is estimated at 880,000 tons whilst the annual average fish production is 420,000 tons.
According to him, it is estimated that domestic fish production in Ghana as at last year was 444,000 tons, which is is made up of 291,000 tons of marine catch.
Mr. Tee advised the farmers to adopt modern technology available to improve food production in the country.
