The Ghana Journalists Association GJA Award Committee for 2009 has announced winners for this year's awards. Briefing the media, the Chairman of the Committee, Dr. Goodwin Anim, says the selection of nominees for this year's awards was based on accuracies, balance and objective reportage.
He said about 225 entries were received nation-wide, comprising 139 journalists from the print media, 44 from the radio and 42 from the television but only 30 were selected. According to Dr. Anim, the Committee took into consideration the turns of reference and criteria given them by the GJA. He was hopeful that out of the 30 selected Journalists one will become Journalists of the year.
The Committee therefore made some recommendation for future considerations by the GJA. They suggested that a review Committee must be put in place to facilitate the work of future GJA wards Committees. This according to them will help in bringing out the best Journalist for the Award.
It also requested the GJA to have at least two or three persons for the top award, adding that this will make the award competitive since they will be interviewed before given the nod.
The nominees for the 2009 Awards are Loretta Vanderpuye and Peggy Ama Donkor, both of Ghana Television (GTV), Kofi Yeboah, Charles Benoni Okine, Samuel Kyei Boateng and Kofi Akordor, all of the Daily Graphic, Anas Aremyaw Anas of the New Crusading Guide and Maurice Quansah and Rosalind Amoh of Graphic Sports.
Others are Kingley Hope, Ghanaian Times, Theophilous Yartey, Business and Financial Times, Edmund Smith Asante, the Ghanaian Observer, Dominic Hlordzi, Radio Ghana and Joseph Kobla, Victor Kwawukume from other media houses.
