Mills calls for change in political leadership

THE flag bearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Prof John Evans Atta Mills, has called for a change of political leadership of the country in the forth coming elections.

He said expressions of disillusionment by the broad masses of Ghanaians concerning the policies of the government made that move imperative.

He, therefore, enjoined the electorate to effect a political change by voting massively for the NDC in the December presidential and parliamentary election.

"This will enable the party rearrange the social and economic order of the country, which is in a distorted state, he stated.

Addressing NDC supporters at Gomoa Mangoase, near Agona Swedru, the NDC presidential aspirant said his tour of the country had revealed that the vast majority of the people were smarting under grinding poverty, for which reason they could not make ends meet.

He said the untold hardships inflicted on the people by unpopular government policies had resulted in unprecedented migration of the people, especially the youth, from the rural areas of the country to the urban centres and abroad to seek employment.

Prof Mills described the administration of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as being insensitive to the plight of the people who were groaning under a heavy burden of inhuman policies.

He said the people of Ghana voted for the NPP to better their living conditions and create avenues of employment for their children, not to impose hardships on them through the implementation of what he termed "obnoxious policies".

According to the NDC presidential aspirant, the mass of the people had regretted voting for the NPP to manage the economy since their standards of living had gone from bad to worse.

Prof Mills expressed concern over the daily increases in the prices of goods and services, stressing that the situation looked as if the government had lost grip of the economy.

He told the gathering that an NDC government would put back smiles on their faces by implementing human-centred policies that would guarantee their future.

The NDC flag bearer asked the executives at the various levels of the party to take the forthcoming voters registration exercise very seriously by ensuring that those who had attained the voting age registered with the Electoral Commission (EC) to enable them exercise their franchise in the December elections
