Student’s forehead slashed over sugarcane theft

Efiduase, Ashanti: A 15-year-old student identified as Master Opoku Agyapong is reported to have been slashed twice in the forehead and once on his back with a machete for allegedly stealing sugarcane from the farm of one of his teachers.

Opoku, a Form Two student of the Efiduase Senior Secondary and Commercial School, is said to have gone to the sugarcane farm together with two other colleagues, ostensibly to steal some sugarcane where he was set upon by two men asked to keep watch over the farm.

The Efiduase police chief, DSP George Ankomah told Joy News that the teacher is said to have been reporting the regular theft of produce from his farm, and detailed the two men to keep watch for who was responsible for the pilfering.

He said the three students were reported to have gone to the farm for sugarcane, when the watchmen gave them a hot chase and managed to club Opoku.

The two others escaped.

Opoku has had his forehead stitched and is helping the police in their investigations while the police said they were making efforts to arrest the teacher for questioning.
