THE SOFOLINE Police have arrested the run-away lunatic who cruelly stabbed to death a staunch supporter of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who is also a chop bar operator at Bantama, in Kumasi on Monday.
The lunatic, Kofi Baboni, was arrested yesterday around 8.30am by the Sofoline Police at the 'Race Course' through the support of the family members of the deceased, Madam Akua Gyamfua, aged 62.
Kofi Babone, it is alleged, killed the woman after unsuccessfully trying to snatch a bowl of soup from her.
Briefing DAILY GUIDE, the District commander of the Sofoline Police Station, ASP Mr. James Annor confirmed that Baboni was in their grip and would be sent to the psychiatric hospital for observation.
An eyewitness, Madam Akosua Achiaa, a sister of the deceased, told DAILY GUIDE that she was with the deceased in front of their chop bar near the Bantama market on Monday, January 28.
According to her, around 5.00 pm, when most of the people in Kumasi were watching the football match between Ghana and Morocco, the madman approached them and to their surprise, tried to snatch a bowl of soup beside them.
She said she shouted at him but the man, instead of running away, pulled out a knife and directed it at her.
She stated that Madam Gyamfua shielded her from the madman by trying to take the knife from him but he outwitted her, stabbed her twice on the neck and wrist, and bolted.
She said she rushed Madam Gyamfua to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital but she was pronounced dead on arrival. From Stella Danso,
