The Deputy Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Mohammed Adams Sukparu, has disclosed that the Ministry is working towards the establishment of a digital fraud monitoring system to strengthen efforts against cyber-enabled fraud.
According to him, the initiative forms part of measures to secure Ghana's digital economy and protect citizens, businesses and critical national infrastructure from growing cyber threats.
Mr Sukparu made the disclosure when delivering the Guest of Honour address at the CyberSecure Ghana International Conference 2026 in Accra on Friday, under the theme, “Securing Ghana's Digital Economy: Leadership, Trust and Cyber Resilience.”
He noted that public confidence remains central to the success of Ghana's digital transformation agenda, stressing that a resilient digital economy requires strong leadership, institutional accountability and collective action.
The Deputy Minister revealed that the Cyber Security Authority recorded 4,938 cybersecurity incidents between January and September 2026, resulting in estimated financial losses of GH¢209.7 million. He described the trend as a serious economic and governance concern.
On government interventions to strengthen cybersecurity, he said vulnerability assessments had been completed for 25 Critical Information Infrastructure institutions in 2026.
Mr Sukparu added that 479 cybersecurity service providers, 116 establishments and 2,685 professionals had been licensed or accredited, while more than 84,000 children and young people had received cybersecurity awareness training.
He urged institutional leaders to incorporate cybersecurity into strategic decision-making, invest in secure systems and staff training, and establish effective incident-response plans.
“You may outsource a service, but you cannot outsource accountability for the risks it creates,” he cautioned.
He also called on financial institutions, telecommunications operators and technology businesses to safeguard customer data and transactions, while encouraging citizens to report suspicious activities to the Cyber Security Authority through its short code, 292.
The Deputy Minister stated that securing Ghana's digital future requires coordinated action among government, industry, academia and the public.
