The Ashanti Regional Police Command has arrested 3 Nigerian nationals suspected of belonging to a criminal network targeting bank customers in Kumasi and surrounding communities.
The suspects have been identified as Aboy Promise, 30; Favour Uwalaka, 45; and Kingsley, alias KC, 35. They were picked up in separate operations following intelligence gathered by the police.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, the police said the arrests were carried out on October 31 by an IGP's Special Team comprising officers from the Anti-Armed Robbery Unit of the CID Headquarters and the Accra Regional Police Intelligence Directorate.
The first 2 suspects were arrested at a hotel in Moshie Zongo. A search of their rooms led to the retrieval of GH¢1,600, several mobile phones, a Royal motorbike and a master key suspected to have been used to gain unlawful access to vehicles belonging to their victims.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the suspects monitored banking facilities, identified customers who withdrew large sums of money and followed them before carrying out the robberies.
The police also suspect that the group used a master key to break into vehicles left unattended by bank customers and steal cash kept inside.
During interrogation, the first 2 suspects reportedly named 2 alleged accomplices, identified as Chinedu, alias Alhaji, and Kingsley, alias KC.
The suspects subsequently led the police team to another hotel at Dichemso, where Kingsley was arrested. Chinedu, however, remains at large, with the police appealing to the public to provide credible information that could assist in his arrest.
According to the police, the 3 suspects allegedly admitted to robbing a victim of GH¢15,000 on October 27, 2026, at Asokore Mampong. The victim had reportedly withdrawn the money from Kwamang Rural Bank before being targeted.
They are also suspected of involvement in similar incidents at the Atonsu branch of Fidelity Bank, the Ahodwo branch of Access Bank and other locations across Kumasi and its surrounding areas.
The three suspects have been handed over to the Ashanti Regional Police Command and are assisting with investigations.
The police have meanwhile urged bank customers to remain alert to suspicious individuals around banking facilities and advised the public not to leave cash or other valuables unattended in vehicles.
