Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has initiated legal action against New Patriotic Party (NPP) communicator Benjamin Gyewu-Appiah, popularly known as Benghazi, and Media General Ghana Limited over claims linking him romantically to musician Fantana and accusing him of misappropriating public funds.
The lawsuit stems from comments Benghazi made during a discussion on Onua FM on October 14, 2026, where he alleged that Fantana was the minister’s girlfriend and had received money he had allegedly stolen.
“Okudzeto Ablakwa has given all the money he took to Fantana. He is having an affair with Fantana. Ablakwa and his wife will go to jail,” he alleged.
A writ of summons issued by the High Court of Justice in Accra on October 30, 2026, names Mr Ablakwa as the plaintiff, with Benghazi and Media General Ghana Limited, owners and operators of Onua FM and Onua TV, listed as defendants.
The writ, issued pursuant to Order 2 Rule 3(1), requires the defendants to enter an appearance within 8 days after being served, including the day of service.
It warns that failure to comply could result in judgment being entered against them without their participation in the proceedings.
“Take notice that in default of your so doing, judgment may be given in your absence without further notice to you,” the writ states.
The allegations reportedly attracted a strong response from Fantana and generated public attention following the broadcast.
In a related development, Media General has issued a retraction and apology through Onua FM, the station on which the disputed comments were made.
The legal action brings both Benghazi and the media organisation before the court over the statements aired during the October 14 programme.
