Chief Justice of The Gambia, Justice Pa Edrissa M. O. Faal, has paid a courtesy call on the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi as part of his working visit to Ghana.
Justice Faal visited the palace last Wednesday with a delegation to engage the Asantehene and strengthen ties with the traditional leadership of the Asante Kingdom.
Members of the delegation included his wife, Mariama Faal; the Judicial Secretary, Abdou Conteh; the Director of Legal Education, Rougie Thomasi; and the Protocol Officer, Omar Jammeh.
Also present were Supreme Court Justice Senyo Dzamefe, Court of Appeal Justice Olivia Obeng Owusu and the Judicial Secretary of Ghana's Judicial Service, Musah Ahmed.
Palace museum tour
During the visit, Justice Faal and his delegation toured the Manhyia Palace Museum, where they were guided by its curator, Justice Brobbey.
The tour exposed the visitors to the history, culture and artefacts of Asanteman, as well as the traditions and institutions that have shaped the Asante Kingdom.
The engagement at Manhyia followed an earlier meeting in Accra between Justice Faal and Ghana's Chief Justice, Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie.
The meetings highlighted judicial cooperation between Ghana and The Gambia, particularly in legal training and technical assistance aimed at strengthening the administration of justice in The Gambia.
The visit also provided an opportunity for discussions on traditional governance, the role of the judiciary and ways to deepen cooperation between the two countries.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu II congratulated Justice Faal on his appointment as Chief Justice of The Gambia. He succeeded Justice Hassan B. Jallow, who retired after serving in the position for more than nine years.
