The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is holding its constituency‑level elections today, Saturday, October 24, under strict guidelines aimed at regulating voting, verifying delegates and safeguarding the integrity of the process.
The party has banned tally voting for eight positions and directed all delegates to present valid identification before casting their ballots.
The guidelines were announced by NDC General Secretary Fifi Fiavi Kwetey at a press briefing on Thursday, October 22, ahead of the nationwide polls.
Under the rules, delegates must present a valid voter ID card, Ghana Card or the party’s plastic membership card for verification before voting. Election officials have been instructed to enforce the requirement consistently, with no exceptions or preferential treatment.
The party says the measures are designed to ensure transparency and fairness throughout the electoral process.
For the eight positions affected by the ban on tally voting, each delegate is entitled to cast only one vote per position, in line with the prescribed procedures.
Mr. Kwetey also directed that ballots for the women’s and youth conferences be kept securely and counted only after voting in the main constituency executive elections has concluded.
He stressed that all aspirants, delegates and election officials are bound by the guidelines and warned against any attempt to bypass the rules for personal or political gain.
“We expect all participants to comply fully with them. Ignorance of the rules will not justify attempts to circumvent them, and no aspirants or delegates should seek an advantage through practices that compromise the fairness of the process,” he said.
The NDC has urged all participants to adhere strictly to the procedures as voting takes place today, emphasising that compliance is essential to maintaining the credibility and integrity of the constituency elections.
