The Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) has appointed the Member of Parliament for Nsawam-Adoagyiri and Minority Chief Whip, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, to serve on the Continental Immunization Advisory Council (CIAC).
Annoh-Dompreh is expected to contribute to high-level discussions on Africa’s immunization priorities and provide strategic advice to the continental health agency.
His appointment forms part of efforts by the Africa CDC to establish the CIAC as an independent advisory body to support the implementation of the Continental Immunization Strategy (CIS) 2026–2030.
In a letter dated August 14, the Director of the Immunization Directorate at Africa CDC, Dr Folake Olayinka, said Annoh-Dompreh was selected in recognition of his leadership, expertise and contribution to the immunization and health agenda.
“The CIAC is being established as a high-level, independent advisory body to Africa CDC on immunization. It will provide strategic advice and thought leadership to support implementation of the Continental Immunization Strategy (CIS) 2026-2030,” Dr Olayinka said.
The Council will bring together leaders and experts from public health, government, parliament, finance, academia, civil society, communities and the private sector.
Its work will focus on key immunization challenges, including sustainable domestic financing, reaching zero-dose and underserved populations, vaccine security, African vaccine manufacturing and strengthening primary healthcare systems.
The Council will also consider strategies to protect immunization gains in fragile and conflict-affected settings.
Africa CDC said Annoh-Dompreh’s experience and perspective would contribute to its efforts to develop practical and Africa-led solutions to immunization challenges on the continent.
“We believe that your voice and experience would make an important contribution to these deliberations and strengthen the Council’s ability to provide bold, practical and Africa-led advice for real time solutions to African Immunization issues,” Dr Olayinka said.
Membership of the Council is by individual appointment, with members expected to serve in their personal and independent capacities rather than as representatives of their respective institutions.
