Former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has held discussions with the Japanese Ambassador to Ghana, His Excellency Hiroshi Yoshimoto, and officials of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) on ways to deepen cooperation between Ghana and Japan.
The meeting focused on strengthening bilateral relations and exploring opportunities for collaboration in several areas of national development.
According to Dr Bawumia, the discussions covered digitalisation, fintech and artificial intelligence, as well as flood control and measures to combat illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey.
The former Vice President described the engagement as productive and expressed appreciation to Ambassador Yoshimoto and his team for the visit.
“Today, I had a productive meeting with the Japanese Ambassador to Ghana, His Excellency Hiroshi Yoshimoto, and his team, including JICA,” Dr Bawumia said in a statement.
He said the discussions were centred on “strengthening our bilateral ties and deepening cooperation” in the identified areas.
The engagement comes amid growing interest in international partnerships to support Ghana's digital transformation, strengthen technological innovation and address environmental challenges, including flooding and illegal mining.
Dr Bawumia thanked Ambassador Yoshimoto and his delegation for the courtesy of their visit, describing the meeting as an opportunity to explore areas of mutual interest between Ghana and Japan.
